Corrine Slade is a Black American painter, born in New Jersey in 1998. She has moved towards semi-abstract art, with her figures often being Black women. She tends to paint her work in darker and warmer tones that create a safe space when viewing. I really appreciate her abstraction while keeping some sort of figure in the work. I think she really captures calm emotions very well, and I would love to incorporate something like this into my works. I always connect with Black artists who make a message, but I like how her art is calmer. She said in an interview, “I think that making my work can feel revolutionary on an individual level and I hope that other people can get something out of those images that carry a lot of weight for me."
She currently works in Chicago and her work was shown internationally at Frieze London, Felix Art Fair with solo shows at The Breeder, Athens Greece, New Image Art Gallery, and Los Angeles. She currently has instagram (@Corrine.Slade), a website with Col Gallery, and multiple interview articles.
